Where to house a film crew shooting in Naples

A crew shooting in Naples needs three things in the same place: beds close together, vehicles under cover and kit behind a locked door. Very few addresses in the centre offer all three. In Chiaia, at Vico Santa Maria a Cappella Vecchia 8b, there are 20 beds on one floor and a 3,000 sq m covered garage in the same building.

What does a film crew need from accommodation in Naples?

A crew needs beds in one building, covered parking for its vehicles and a secure room for its kit, all at the same address.

Lose any one of those and the production pays for it every day. Vans in a public car park across town, cases in a warehouse on the outskirts, people split between two hotels. Every extra address adds a run in the morning and another at night.

Why does splitting a crew across hotels cost so much time?

Splitting a crew across several hotels multiplies the pickups, the delays and the coordination calls on every shooting day.

With one address there is one pickup and one drop. Whoever has a dawn call walks downstairs and the van is already there. Short distances in central Naples do not mean short journeys, and two kilometres at rush hour can easily take half an hour.

How many people can stay in one building in Chiaia?

Production vans, fitted vans, SUVs and 9 seat minibuses all go in. Loading and unloading happen under cover, CCTV runs across the whole perimeter, and there is an EV charging point. Height is the one hard limit. Anything over 3 metres will not clear the entrance, so measure with roof racks and antennas fitted.

Where does the equipment go during the shoot?

The equipment stays in the same building, in a covered area assigned to the production for the whole shoot.

Inside the garage, more than 1,000 of the 3,000 sq m are kept as open floor and allocated by the square metre: camera and lenses, lighting, flight cases, set pieces, wardrobe. Deliveries are signed for by on-site staff while the crew is out on set.

How does the wrap work at the end of the day?

Wrap works at any hour. The garage never closes, the van drives in, gets unloaded under cover and the crew goes straight up to the apartments.

There is no night porter to ring and no double parking in a narrow street to unload. Arrival times and late check ins are agreed once, at the start of the job.

What does the crew get apart from a bed?

Every apartment has a kitchen, a washing machine and daily cleaning, and the wellness floor has a 24 hour gym and a steam room with chromotherapy.

On a long shoot, that changes how people recover. Someone back at 10pm can cook, run a wash and train without leaving the building. Piazza dei Martiri is 70 metres away for anyone who would rather eat out.
