Working remotely from Naples, what the apartment needs
Working from a Naples apartment needs a stable connection, a real desk and an area that is quiet during the day. The historic centre fails on noise, Chiaia holds up because it is residential.
Working from Naples works well, but only if the apartment is chosen on office criteria rather than holiday ones. There are three requirements, and none of them appear in listing photographs.
The connection
Ask for the connection type and real speed, not whether wifi exists. If you take video calls you also need decent upload, which is the figure nobody publishes.
Check where the signal reaches inside the apartment: in Neapolitan buildings with thick walls, a router in the living room does not cover the bedroom.
The workspace
A real desk with a real chair. Eight hours at a dining table on a kitchen chair is felt within two days.
Ask for a photograph of the space you would actually work in, not just the living room.
Daytime noise
This is where the historic centre fails. The lanes carry deliveries, scooters, building work and voices all day, and with the window shut in summer the room becomes unusable.
Residential areas work better because they empty out during the day: people are at work and at school.
What matters beyond the apartment
A bar to change the air mid-morning. A supermarket within walking distance. A gym or somewhere to move, because working from home makes the day stationary. And somewhere to walk in the evening.
Why Chiaia and Vico Santa Maria a Cappella Vecchia
The neighbourhood is residential, so it is quiet by day and alive in the evening without constant nightlife. Supermarkets, pharmacies and bars are walkable, and Lungomare Caracciolo is where you walk or run at the end of the day.
Inside the building, the wellness floor with gym and steam room is reserved for guests, which solves the movement problem without hunting for a city gym membership. Anyone staying a while can leave the car in the on-site garage rather than moving it daily.
