Parking SUVs and vans in central Naples, where you actually fit

The problem always presents the same way: you pull up at the barrier, read the height sign and realise your vehicle does not fit. At that point you are in a narrow central street with a vehicle to reposition.

Why it happens

Central Naples garages were not built as garages. They are ground floors, covered courtyards and basements adapted inside historic buildings, with clearances dictated by the existing structure.

The result is that many central facilities stop at heights that exclude taller SUVs, people carriers, campervans and any van.

Who runs into it

Anyone arriving with an upgraded rental, often without knowing which model will be assigned. Larger families travelling in a people carrier. Anyone arriving with work vehicles, production vans or equipment transport.

What to ask beforehand

The height in metres, not in words. The correct answer is a number. If the answer is that an SUV fits, you have no information.

Bay width and ramp radius. A long vehicle can clear the height and still fail to turn.

Whether the space is guaranteed. Some facilities accept bookings without guaranteeing the size of the bay assigned.

Whether access is available at any hour. For late returns this matters.

Where conditions are better

On-site garages inside large buildings, built to serve multiple units, normally have more generous ramps and clearances than retrofitted public garages.
